Municipal Scholarships Now Open To Somerville High Schoolers

SOMERVILLE, MA – Somerville high school students graduating in 2023 can now apply for five municipal scholarships through the Somerville Municipal Scholarship Committee.

Selected applicants will receive $1,000 to help with post-secondary education expenses, according to a news release.

All high school seniors who live in Somerville are welcome to apply for the municipal scholarships, as long as they have been accepted to an accredited post-secondary institution at the time the financial aid is first awarded.

To apply, students are asked to create a profile and answer three short essay questions via the City’s Dollars for Scholars page.

Applications are due by April 28, and recipients will be announced May 15.

Scholarships are awarded to students based on academic achievement, community service, and financial need. The scholarship funds will be distributed to the winners in early June.

"We are thrilled to offer these scholarships to our graduating seniors as they continue their educations and prepare for their futures,” Mayor Katjana Ballantyne said in the news release. “We hope that these scholarships help students bring the spirit of the Somerville community with them, no matter where their journey goes.”
