Somerville Gathering Public Input On Major Roadway Reconstruction Project
The city is planning to improve one of the most highly-trafficked areas.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The city is hosting its first public forum regarding a major renovation plan by the city for one of its most significant roadways.
The segment of Broadway that goes through Magoun Square and that spans from Winchester Street to Central Street is slated to have its roadway repaved and sidewalks rebuilt as the main components of the reconstruction project.
Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, Ward 5 Councilor Naima Sait, and Mobility Division staff are leading the first community engagement meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 15 beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting will be the first of numerous feedback opportunities for residents, with surveys and other events slated to follow close behind. Street outreach pop-up events are scheduled for consecutive Wednesdays on Oct. 22 and Oct. 29 on Broadway at Medford Street and Trum Field at 4:30 p.m. respectively.

Reconstruction is currently anticipated to take place between 2027 and 2029. According to Ballantyne, the project will also emphasize making the street safer and more accessible.
