Somerville Schools Closed Friday As Icy Storm Approaches
A wintry mix is expected to begin overnight, leading to dangerous conditions during the morning and afternoon commutes on Friday.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The Somerville Public Schools will be closed Friday, Feb. 4 due to the expected ice and sleet storm.
In a statement, the district said the storm could lead to dangerous road conditions in the area.
All administrative offices are closed, and extracurricular activities are canceled as well.

A wintry mix was expected to begin during the overnight hours, according to the National Weather Service. Somerville will be under a winter weather advisory until about 7 p.m. on Friday, with up to a quarter-inch of ice possible.
"Rain to change to a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet Friday, affecting both commutes," the NWS said in a bulletin. "Falling temps will rapidly freeze water/slush. Road pre-treatment is made more difficult in rainy weather."
