Jehlen Wins State Senate Primary For 2nd Middlesex District
Incumbent Pat Jehlen, who has represented the district for 15 years, was re-elected Tuesday.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Incumbent Pat Jehlen has won the Democratic primary for state senator in the 2nd Middlesex District.
The Associated Press called the race for Jehlen based on results from half the district. Jehlen received 21,539 votes to challenger Gary Fisher's 4,155. Over 19,000 voters cast ballots for Jehlen in Somerville, which makes up the largest portion of the 2nd Middlesex District.
Somerville and Winchester have reported results as of 10:30 p.m. Results have not yet come in from Medford and Cambridge.

Jehlen, a Somerville resident, has represented the district for 15 years. She previously served on the Somerville School Committee and as a state representative. Fisher, a Cambridge native, has spent more than 30 years working in schools in underprivileged communities.
There is no Republican candidate for state senate in the 2nd Middlesex District, meaning Jehlen has effectively won re-election.

Democratic Primary
- Pat Jehlen (i) - 21,539 votes, 83.8 percent
- Gary Fisher - 4,155 votes, 16.2 percent
