Memorial Congregational Church of Sudbury will offer several services during Holy Week and Easter, March 24 - 31. All members of the community are invited and welcome to any of MCC’s services.
Palm Sunday (March 24) commemorates Jesus’ return to Jerusalem. During our 10 am service the children of the church will distribute palm fronds which symbolize the palms which the citizens of Jerusalem laid on the path as Jesus rode in on a donkey.
On Maundy Thursday, March 28, MCC will offer a pot luck dinner and Tenebre service. Dinner will begin at 6pm and the service will follow around 6:30. This service, which commemorates the Last Supper, includes readings of dialog and poetry.
At 7:30 pm on Good Friday MCC will present a solemn service using interactive stations to reflect on Jesus' journey to the cross and the struggles of his friends and followers. By delving into the depths of despair on Good Friday, we can truly experience the extravagant joy of Easter.
MCC offers two services on Easter Sunday. We hope that you will join us for one or both of them. At 6:30 am the church will hold a sunrise service on the hill behind the home at 16 Concord Road (across from Goodnow Library). We will gather after the service in Ames Hall for a breakfast.
At 10 am the church fills to celebrate Easter, the most important holiday in the Christian calendar. Music, led by our Minister of Music Cathy Meyer, is always central to our worship service, especially on Easter. Our Gospel Choir (middle and high school students) will sing "O Happy Day" (traditional Gospel). MCC’s Senior Choir will present "My Soul is Joyful" from Cantata 146 by J.S. Bach. We will end the service with everyone singing the "Hallelujah" Chorus from Handel's Messiah. Guest soloist Debbie Snook will join us on trumpet.
