Barbecue Fundraiser Planned for Scott Milley Memorial Project

Proceeds will go toward the costs of the beach memorial.

A memorial barbecue fundraiser will be held Oct. 12 at the Nobscot Scout Reservation on Nobscot Road, at the Framingham line.

Proceeds will go toward the costs of construction for the Scott F. Milley Memorial Reflection Area at Willis Lake Beach in Sudbury.

Neighbors of the Willis Lake region petitioned the Board of Selectmen in April to build a memorial in honor of the Army Ranger who died in combat in Afghanistan on Nov. 30, 2010. Willis Lake was a place he frequented often as a child.

Part of the plans include a raised seating area, natural material and plants up the hill, and a small plaque in Milley's honor.

There will be no cost to the town to build the memorial. Volunteers and donations are used to help with the upkeep of the area.

Tickets for the fundraiser, which will be held from noon to 5 p.m., are $25 for adults and $10 for children.

There will be hikes to Ford's Folly and Tippling Rock. The barbecue will consist of ribs, pork, chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs.

The Bruce Marshall Band will provide live music.

Milley died Nov. 30, 2010, while serving as a U.S. Army Ranger in Afghanistan.
