Making Sudbury A Welcoming Or Sanctuary City: Info Meeting

This public meeting is to explain the warrant article that looks to make Sudbury a sanctuary city.

SUDBURY, MA—The citizens’ group sponsoring Town Meeting Warrant Article 44 to make Sudbury a “welcoming or sanctuary community” is holding hold an information meeting on the article Thursday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the community room of Goodnow Library.

Sudbury residents are urged to come and learn more about this article, which was developed after working with the Sudbury Police Department on formal policies on the treatment of undocumented immigrants, said the announcement. There will be a presentation followed by a question and answer period.

The Sudbury Welcoming Town Committee’s resolution is to “ensure that Sudbury is a safe and welcoming community for all individuals who visit, work, or live here.” The warrant article "affirms Sudbury’s values of respect for diversity and fair and respectful treatment of all and asks Town Meeting to join with other towns and cities in Massachusetts that have chosen to become welcoming communities."

The article will be voted on at Town Meeting, which begins Monday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.
