New Bike Path/Walking Trail To Connect With MBTA Station

MassDOT Highway Administrator Tinlin joins state and local officials at Assabet River Rail Trail groundbreaking event In Maynard.

From MassDOT:

MAYNARD - On Thursday , July 21, MassDOT Highway Administrator Tom Tinlin will join area officials at a groundbreaking event to recognize the commencement of the Assabet River Rail Trail construction project. The Rail Trail project links the Assabet River National Wildlife refuge with the downtown Maynard business district and the South Acton Commuter Rail Station, providing an alternative transportation option.

The multi-use Assabet River Rail Trail Project will construct 3.4 miles of multi-use trail from the Maynard/Stow town line through Maynard partly along the abandoned Boston & Maine Rail Road alignment and partly through developed areas of Maynard and to South Acton. The multi-use trail will end at the South Acton MBTA Train Station. The work will also include replacement of the existing Bridges at Tobin Park in Maynard, Mill Pond in Acton, and new boardwalk in Acton. The trail will consist of a 12-foot paved surface, with two-foot wide grass, stone dust, or paved shoulders (depending upon location). There will be nine (9) locations where the trail crosses existing roadways and vehicle traffic – signage, pavement marking and treatments, and traffic control measures will be provided based upon conditions at each crossing.
