Screening Of 'Who We Are' In Sudbury Aims To Boost Historical Literacy

A group of local churches and the League of Women Voters of Sudbury are collaborating to show the 2021 documentary.

SUDBURY, MA — A group of local religious institutions and the League of Women Voters of Sudbury are coming together this month to screen a documentary about anti-Black racism in America. The 2021 film "WHO WE ARE: A Chronicle of Racism in America" was first released in 2021.

The award-winning film "WHO WE ARE: A Chronicle of Racism in America" will be shown Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, along with facilitated discussion sessions. The event is free and open to the public.

WHO WE ARE was produced by ACLU deputy legal director Jeffery Robinson and chronicles the history of anti-Black racism in the United States, from slavery to modern America.

“True freedom cannot exist without the truth,” says Desiree Lawson, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Sudbury, Massachusetts.

The film showing and discussion from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. will be hybrid: in-person at the Presbyterian Church, 330 Concord Rd., Sudbury, and on Zoom. The film will be shown in two sections, with discussion and refreshments at the end of each. The film is rated PG-13; viewer discretion is advised. Register to attend here.
