Sudbury Foundations 3rd 2023 Grant Round Backs Local Programs

Communities including Marlborough, Natick and Hudson will also benefit from the new $460,000 grant round.

SUDBURY, MA — The Sudbury Foundation this week revealed its latest round of 2023 grant gifts, which will support programs in town and in Beverly, Boston, Hudson, Lowell, Marlborough, Natick and Springfield.

The Sudbury Foundation periodically distributes grants to local organizations, particularly those focused on food insecurity and issues affecting children and families. This new round covers those areas, but the foundation also turned to help food programs damaged by flooding over the summer.

The third round of grants so far in 2023 will distribute about $460,000 to local causes, including:

  • $19,089 for Goodnow Library smart lockers
  • $16,150 to the Metro Community Development Corp. (Marlborough) for Musketahquid Tenant Organization Improvements
  • $12,000 to the Sudbury Valley Trustees for financial systems infrastructure
  • $12,015 to Sudbury Parks and Recreation for Fall Fest 2023, which has been postponed until May
  • $50,000 over the next two years for Gardening the Community (Springfield)
  • $100,000 for Mill City Grows (Lowell) over three years
  • $100,000 over three years for the New Entry Sustainable Farming Project (Beverly)
  • $100,000 over three years for The Carrot Project (Boston)
  • Emergency grants of $10,000 for Gardening the Community and $10,000 for the Massachusetts Farm Resiliency Fund (state fund)
  • $5,000 for the Fresh Start Furniture Bank (Hudson)
  • $25,000 for the MetroWest Emergency Relief Fund at the Community Foundation for MetroWest (Natick)

"In addition to awarding grants through our Sudbury Program and Farm and Local Food Initiative, the Foundation has also made three emergency grants. We awarded two grants to assist our farm partners affected by the devastating floods in July and one grant to support MetroWest organizations assisting with the current migrant crisis. The Foundation prides itself on being able to respond quickly to the needs of our community," Sudbury Foundation Executive Director Sonia Shah said in a news release.

The 70-year-old Sudbury Foundation gave out close to $2 million in grants in 2022 alone to nonprofits across the state.
