Sudbury Police Department Holds Open House Today

Residents interested in understanding the need for a new station can take a tour between 2-4 p.m.

The Sudbury Police Department wants to give the public as many answers as possible in regards to why the town should build a new police station.

Today is a day where that can happen.

An open house will be held at the Sudbury Police Department today from 2 to 4 p.m. for residents interested in understanding the need for a new facility. Personnel will be on hand to answer questions regarding the current as well as proposed building.

Officials are now planning to present the full estimated $7.5 million project at next year's Annual Town Meeting.

"We very much want to try to answer any questions or concerns (with this open house)," acting Police Chief Scott Nix said. "We want to thank the residents for their support at Town Meeting and hopefully continue to get their support at the polls."

Many residents questioned the projected size of the new station (14,540 square feet), arguing it would be too big for the town's small force.

But Facilities Director Jim Kelly and Nix agreed the town would benefit from  building a new station now, with borrowing and buildings costs low and the town's debt capacity opening up.

Both Kelly and Nix will be present at the open house.

"We really do hope residents continue to know more about the conditions in the current station and the concepts going forward," Town Manager Maureen Valente said.
