Sudbury Resident Named Honorary Captain at Revolution Game

Mary Kate Lee and Revolution defender Kevin Alston are both cancer survivors.

Sudbury resident and cancer survivor Mary Kate Lee has had some amazing experiences the last couple of years.

She met former New England Patriot Joe Andruzzi earlier this year at a cancer fundraiser, and she and her family have been active hosting numerous blood drives in Sudbury to help those in need.

On June 8, she added another fun experience as she served as honorary captain at the New England Revolution vs. D.C. United game.

Mary Kate, 11, was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma in 2010 and now is two years cancer free. The Nixon Elementary School fifth-grader was asked to be an honorary captain for the opening ceremonies along with Revolution player Kevin Alston, who has been diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML).

"Kevin has an amazing attitude and we know that he will back on the soccer field," Mary Kate's mom, Kathryn, told Sudbury Patch. "Mary Kate walked proudly with Kevin Alston. It was Kevin Alston bobblehead night to help raise awareness and funds for leukemia and lymphoma research."
