Essential Monday: Yo-Yo People Party, Magic Show and Sports Start

Big events occurring in Watertown this week,

• The Watertown Free Public Library will be wrapping up its Summer Reading program the Wednesday, August 21, at 2 p.m. with a performance party with Yo-Yo People that will include yo-yos attached to bouncy balls, yo-yos on 10-foot strings, and multiple yo-yos looping while wild people are hula hooping and unicycling around the library. And there will be cake! This event is for kids entering kindergarten through the fifth grade ... and its free. 

• There will be magic in the air at Belmont-Watertown United Methodist Church at 421 Common St. in Belmont on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. as the church presents a show on its lawn featuring Belmont’s own Mike Bent and his “Abrakidabra Magic Show” along with singer/banjo player Paul Sedgwick. 

• Watch out for footballs, soccer balls and especially field hockey balls around Victory Field as Watertown High fall athletes will officially begin their pre-season training on Thursday, Aug. 22.

• The Watertown Board of Health will be meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 21 in the Town Council Chambers of the Watertown Administration Building, 149 Main St., where they will be holding administrative hearings on Mixstir's at the Boston Health Club and the MEWS Pool.
