“Nationwide, in recent years, we have made progress in terms of pedestrian safety, but the number of deaths is still significant,” said Ryan. “ The latest figures from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety show that pedestrian deaths occur primarily in urban areas and account for 14 percent of crash deaths. Drivers have to slow down as they approach crosswalks, and as they navigate areas where there most likely will be people walking and attempting to cross the street.”
Watertown Police and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash.
