Selectmen Preview: New Police Officers, Tax Hearing and More

Town Administrator Fred Turkington provided the preview below:
The Board of Selectmen will meet on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, in Wayland Town Building.
After Chairman John Bladon reviews the meeting agenda for the viewing public, Town Clerk Lois Toombs will administer the oath of office to two new police officers. After receiving public comments, the board will review and approve annual liquor licenses and common vicuuallers licenses for calendar year 2013.
At 7:30 p.m., the town administrator will present the preliminary FY2014 annual operating budget requests of departments and committees. Selectmen will review the public safety department requests.
At 8 p.m., selectmen will conduct the annual tax classification hearing, which will include a presentation by the Board of Assessors and staff. Following the tax classification hearing, the Board will review the tax recapitulation sheets submitted to the state Department of Revenue as part of the tax rate certification process.
Next, the board will continue its review of the preliminary FY2014 operating budget of the unclassified budgets and proposed OPEB contribution. The town administrator will then review his recommendations for the funding sources for proposed FY2014 capital projects and adjustments to the five-year capital improvement plan for FY2014 through FY2018.
After considering the consent calendar and reviewing correspondence, selectmen will then listen to the report of the town administrator, which will include a review of FY2013 expenditures to date, a suggestion that the board schedule Open Meeting Law training by special counsel, and an update on future meeting agenda items. During Selectmen's Reports and Concerns, the board will discuss general items of concern and consider a request from the School Committee that Selectmen refer additional assistance from the Audit Committee.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Large Hearing Room.
