ADULT SERVICES

Virtual Author Talk: Cartoonist Kate Beaton
Her first full-length graphic narrative, Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands, follows New York Times-bestselling author Beaton after university as she heads out west from Nova Scotia, hoping to take advantage of Alberta’s oil rush and pay off her student loans. What the journey will actually cost her will be far more than she anticipates. Register. Tuesday, April 4 at 7 p.m.

Great Presenters: Yamini Ranjan and Karen Blumenfeld
In March 2021 the Wayland Select Board established the Human Rights, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. In this presentation, Ranjan, Chair of the HRDEIC, and Blumenfeld, Vice-Chair, will tell you about the committee’s purpose and work. Register to attend in person or remotely. Author Talk & Book Launch: Juliette Fay

Fused Glass Workshop
Create your own fused glass pendant! Beautiful multi-colored, reflective dichronic glass was originally developed by NASA for satellite mirrors in the early 1990s. Create your piece at the Library, and Deenie will bring it to her home studio for kiln-firing, then return it to the library in about two weeks. All materials included. No experience necessary. Ages 13+. Deenie Pacik Giuliano, MFA has taught and exhibited her glasswork widely. Register. In person only. Thursday, April 13 at 7 p.m.

Portable Induction Cooktop
The newest member of our Library of Things is a lightweight, portable induction hotplate that’s perfect for kitchen, dorm, RV, or boat. Just plug it in and cook away! New Library Tote Bags
Checking out a big stack of books? Now you can easily take them away in one of our handsome, sturdy, new canvas totes. Just check it out along with the books. The bottom gusset allows it to accommodate the whole stack, and the logo tells the world you’re a proud library patron.

Library 175th Anniversary Exhibits
Our sparkling new vitrine now holds some fascinating artifacts from our history, including the original signatures of donors who contributed to the first library fund in 1848; some books from the first collection (including one from 1805 by Mercy Warren); and pictures of our founding fathers. On the Express Book counter, you’ll find images of early librarians, along with models of some of the library’s buildings.

FOR BABIES, TODDLERS AND PRESCHOOLERS

Babytime with Ms. Carly
This lapsit storytime encourages early literacy and caregiver-child interactions with lively songs and rhymes, gentle tickles, bounces, and body-awareness. Best for babies birth to 18 months. Please register. Tuesdays, April 4, April 11, April 18 and April 25 at 10:30 a.m.

Toddler Stem with Ms. Leslie
Join Ms. Leslie for some fun, hands-on science activities. This month we are exploring the amazing properties of water. Registration required. For ages 2-4 years with a caregiver. Wednesdays, April 5 and April 12 at 10:30 a.m.

Storytime with Ms. Pam
Join Ms. Pam for stories, songs, puppets, and activities. For ages 2.5 to 5 years with an adult. Please register. Thursdays, April 6, April 13, and April 20 at 10:30 a.m.

Raising a Reader
In this 6-session early literacy program children will sing, move, build vocabulary, early literacy skills, and a love of books. The Red Bag Lending Library provides families with 4 new books each week that are returned and exchanged the following week. Jodi Levin from Family ACCESS Community Connections will lead the program. Wednesdays, April 26, May 3, May 10, May 24, May 31 and June 7. (No session on May 17). For children ages 0-3 with caregiver. Register for all 6 sessions HERE. Limited to 10 families. This program is funded in part through a CFCE grant from the MA Department of Early Education and Care.

Storytime with Obie the Dog
Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Obie, a beautiful Samoyed. Obie will be accompanied by his owner Helen. We will meet in the Raytheon Room. For ages 3 and up, with an adult. Please register HERE. Thursday, April 27, at 10:30 am.

Lego Club

Get Crafty: Explore Color with Ms. Elise
Children will explore color with flowers, eggs, and shape, using paper, paint, and pastels. For ages 4 and up, with caregiver. Please register HERE. Wednesday, April 12 at 3:30 p.m.

APRIL SCHOOL VACATION SPECIALS

Buildwave: Hands-On Building Games
In this hands-on building game, kids will create with over a dozen different building materials. The program is run by educators at Buildwave. For children ages 5 and up, with caregivers. Please register HERE. Wednesday, April 19, at 2:00 p.m.

Wild World of Reptiles with Joy Marzolf
Learn about our wonderful scaly friends and meet some reptile special guests. Local educator Joy Marzolf of The Joys of Nature will lead this program. Space is limited. 4th/5th Grade Book Club

3D Design Workshop – Sliding Lid Box

Magic the Gathering for Teens

Teen Crafternoon: Cardboard Cats

Comics Making Workshop Series with Jonathan Todd
In this 4-part Comics Making Workshop, tweens will learn how to create and design characters for a graphic novel story, how to develop a story arc, how to turn a true event into a graphic narrative, how to create thumbnail sketches and drawings, as well as how to correct errors.
