Fore! Shelby Firefighters Annual Charity Golf Outing Swings Through Rain
The sixth annual Shelby Township Firefighters charity golf outing braved the rain Friday to raise money for cardiovascular research at Children's Hospital.
A little rain and wind on a late September morning didn't stop the from raising money for cardiovascular research at Children's Hospital, while having a little fun.
The Shelby Township Firefighters Local 1338 held its sixth annual Golf Outing on Friday at The Orchards Golf Club in Washington Township.
More than 60 people took off in a fleet of golf carts at 9 a.m. for the four-man scramble.

Businesses and neighboring firefighters came out Friday to support Shelby's cause. Members of the Sterling Heights, Utica and Washington Township fire department joined the Shelby Fire Department.
Each player was greeted with a chance to win big-ticket door prizes, such as a car or $10,000. The event also included steak dinner, lunch at the turn, beverages on the course, driving range and contests for closest to pin and longest drive.Â

Last year, the fundraiser generated $4,000 for the Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation Cardiovascular Research Fund. This year organizer Robert Muylert said he hopes to raise $5,000.
