Trenton Residents' Guide to Kicking Off Cruisin' Downriver

While Wyandotte is the official starting point to Cruisin’ Downriver, Trenton residents are a mere skid mark away from the action.

Just because Trenton has no official association with the cruise doesn't mean Trenton residents don't want to know what's going down.

Here's what you can expect to kick off the event that consumes the hearts of Downriver residents each year.

To get things going, the third annual “Cruisin’ Downriver Kickoff Car Show” will overtake the and parking lots near Eureka and Third from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The entry fee is $20 and includes the show and a Cruisin’ Downriver T-shirt. Registration is limited to the first 200 vehicles.

All contestants must be parked by 4:45 p.m., with the judging starting at 5 p.m.

Spectators can enjoy the show for free. Parking is available at the Yack Arena.

The show is jointly sponsored by the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber, the city of Wyandotte, WOMC-FM and The News-Herald Newspapers. Each business will award a trophy at the show.

WOMC will be broadcasting live from the car show.

The Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber is also sponsoring a Fifties Cruisin' Downriver Kick-off Party at the same time at Yack Arena. The expo will feature food, drink, vendor booths and a chance at prizes. There will be a contest for the best dressed Grease character. Tickets are available at the door and cost $5 for members and $15 for nonmembers. The show runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Cruisin’ Downriver takes over Fort Street from Outer Drive in Lincoln Park to Sibley in Riverview from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Despite the ongoing construction along Fort Street, the two outer lanes in each direction will remain open for cruisers. This year marks the 13th annual event, which rolls through Lincoln Park, Wyandotte, Southgate and Riverview.
