NJ Lightning Strike Sparks Residential Fire, Officials Say
Fire officials in South Jersey responded to a structure fire that reportedly stemmed from a lightning strike Saturday night, officials said.
SHIP BOTTOM, NJ - Fire officials in South Jersey responded to a structure fire that reportedly stemmed from a lightning strike Saturday night, officials said.
At around 9:46 p.m., the Ship Bottom Volunteer Fire Company on Long Beach Island responded to the lightning strike on the 300 block of 6th Street, the fire company said in as statement.
Following initial reports of smoke in the residence, the call was upgraded to a structure fire assignment, which ushered in additional mutual aid companies and a rapid intervention team.

“Upon arrival crews opened up and found a small fire in the area of where the lightning strike occurred,” fire officials said.
The fire was extinguished after about two hours, the Ship Bottom Volunteer Fire Company said. No injuries were reported.
