1,000 Days: Cat In Somerset Regional Animal Shelter Needs Home

It's been 1,000 days and counting that Whiskey has sat at the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter waiting for her forever home.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — It's been 1,000 days or close to 3 years and Whiskey continues to wait at the Somerset Regional Animals Shelter wondering if she will ever find her "forever" home.

"1,000 days!!! That’s how long our phenomenal kitty Whiskey has been at the shelter waiting for her forever home, a place of happiness and belonging!" wrote Somerset Regional Animal Shelter(SRAS).

The shelter put out a plea for someone to adopt Whiskey in December 2023. Yet the three-and-a-half-year-old Tabby cat continues to wait. She has been sheltered for almost as long as she has been alive.

Whiskey was previously described as fun, very loving, sassy, and "like any Queen in search of a new castle, she tends to like things on her terms."

"She is a lovable girl who gives kisses, enjoys lots of pets while warming your lap, and — when she knows you — even appreciates a gentle belly rub. She’s all about head rubs and meeting new people. She will often come greet you when you visit her in the shelter break room," according to the Friends of Somerset Regional Animal Shelter(FOSRAS).

Whiskey loves to play especially with feather wands, toy mice, and noisy balls that light up. While she can play a little rough, her ideal home may include older kids who understand how to respect a cat’s space.

She prefers to be the only pet, as she likes the company of humans above all creatures.

To help this poor kitty, the shelter is once again reaching out to the community to help find her a loving home.

"Please come in and visit this incredible girl! She is in our staff break room, so when you come to visit please request to see Whiskey!" wrote SRAS.

The shelter at 100 Commons Way in Bridgewater is open daily from noon to 3:30 p.m.

SRAS is a nonprofit organization that services pets in the Somerset County area. The shelter is always in need of donations.

The shelter is currently looking for donations of cardboard boxes like the ones pictured below as they use them as litter boxes.

The sides of the boxes should be at least 2 inches high to keep the litter contained.

"The chewy and fancy feast boxes work well. Costco peanut butter and tuna boxes like the ones shown are awesome because the sides are nice and tall," said the shelter. "Kindly drop off at the shelter. If dropping off after hours, please leave them in the donation bin under the carport."
