Dangerous Heat, Humidity Prompts Warning In Somerset County

A Heat Advisory has been issued for Somerset County through Wednesday night, as heat index values are expected to reach triple digits.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Dangerous temperatures and high humidity are expected over the next few days in Somerset County, prompting a Heat Advisory.

The National Weather Service(NWS) issued a Heat Advisory for Somerset County from 11 a.m. on Monday through 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Heat index values up to 104 degrees are expected during the next three days.

"Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses," according to the NWS.

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Stay in an air-conditioned room
  • Stay out of the sun
  • Check up on relatives and neighbors
  • Take extra precautions when outside
  • Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing
  • Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening
  • Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 103. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 71. Calm wind.

Tuesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 99. Heat index values as high as 104. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 74. Calm wind.

Wednesday: A chance of showers between 2 and 5 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 98. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Thursday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 a.m., then a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Friday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
