Dogs Rescued From Overwhelmed Breeder By Somerset Regional Shelter

Somerset Regional Animal Shelter took in 6 small dogs along with a litter of 5 Lab mix puppies, and a beagle from a Kentucky shelter.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Somerset Regional Animal Shelter(SRAS) rescued 12 dogs from an overcrowded Kentucky animal shelter this past weekend.

Among those dogs were six small Yorkies and Pomeranians that were surrendered to the Kentucky shelter by an overwhelmed breeder. However, the Kentucky shelter was already overcrowded.

SRAS, a nonprofit organization servicing pets in the Somerset County area, took in the six small dogs along with a litter of 5 Lab mix puppies, and a beagle from a Kentucky shelter.

"Somerset Regional Animal Shelter didn't have much space to help but we knew that with the help of the community, we would be able to help," said Shelter Manager Brian Bradshaw.

Many of the dogs needed medical attention and grooming.

Very Important Pups By Maestro Pedro stepped up and donated his services to help groom all of the dogs, said Bradshaw.

Of the 12 dogs, nine were adopted. One Yorkie named Reese's Pieces, a Beagle named Stanley, and a Black Lab Mix puppy named Melody are still available for adoption.

The shelter, at 100 Commons Way in Bridgewater, is open daily from noon to 3:30 p.m.
