Flood Warning Issued For Somerset County

Showers and thunderstorms are likely through the rest of the day on Friday.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A Flood Warning has been issued for the Somerset County area until 6:30 p.m. on Friday by the National Weather Sevice(NWS).

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected, according to the Somerset County Public Safety.

Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

As of 2:30 p.m., gauge reports indicated flooding was ongoing across portions of the warned area, such as the Neshanic River at Reaville. The river is at 6.71 feet with flooding at 6.5 feet.

"Turn around... don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles," said the NWS.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely through the rest of the day on Friday and there is a chance for more rain on Saturday.

Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 a.m. Patchy fog after 10 p.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy through mid-morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 81. West wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 57. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
