Flooding Closes Somerset County Roads: Heavy Rain, High Winds Persist

A Flood Warning and Wind Advisory remain in effect for the Somerset County area. Remember - Turn Around, Don't Drown.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — As heavy rain and high winds continue to hammer the area, multiple roads have closed due to flooding.

The following roads are closed as of 4:20 p.m. on Saturday:

  • Branchburg - South Branch Road from Studiford Road to Chubb Way
  • Branchburg/Bridgewater - Old York Road from Route 202 to Milltown Road
  • Bridgewater - Route 22 West by Vosseller Ave (REOPENED)
  • Franklin/Montgomery - Griggstown Causeway
  • Green Brook - Greenbrook Road between Mountain Parkway and Cramer Avenue
  • Hillsborough - River Road at Riverside Drive
  • Montgomery - Millstone River Road from Staats Farm Road to Belle Mead Griggstown Road
  • Montgomery - Millstone River Road from Dead Tree and Bridgepoint Road
  • Montgomery - River Road in Montgomery (County Route 605) from Blue Spring Road into Princeton
  • Montgomery - Burnt Mills Road between Rattlesnake Bridge Road and Cowperthwaite Road
  • Montgomery - Opossum Road Bridge
  • Montgomery - Dead Tree Run Bridge

If drivers encounter flooded roadways they are asked to notify their local police department and do not attempt to drive through flood waters.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning through 4:30 p.m. and a flood watch through 8 a.m. on Sunday. A Flood Warning is issued when a hazardous weather event is imminent or already happening while a Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect through Sunday at 8 a.m.

Rain will continue through 8 p.m. on Saturday where rain could be heavy at times.

The rain is expected to bring many local rivers to flood or close to flooding. The Lamington (Black)River at Burnt Mills is already at the Action Stage at 10.04 feet.

The North Branch Raritan River Near Raritan (which impacts Old York Road in Bridgewater/Branchburg) is expected to hit the Minor Flooding above 10 feet overnight.

The Millstone River at Blackwells Mills is expected to hit the Minor Flooding above 9 feet by Sunday morning.

The Raritan River at Manville is expected to come just below the Minor Flooding at 13.9 feet overnight.

The Raritan River at Bound Brook is also expected to come just below the Minor Flooding at 27.7 feet overnight.

Here is a look at the upcoming forecast:

Saturday Afternoon: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 50. North wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: A chance of rain before 8 p.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 30. Blustery, with a northwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 49. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29. North wind 5 to 10 mph.
