Heat Advisory In Effect For Somerset County As Temperatures Climb
Heat index values ranging from 98 to 103 degrees are expected, according to the National Weather Service.
SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A Heat Advisory was issued for Somerset County for Thursday and Friday as heat index values climb.
The advisory remains in effect for the county from 10 a.m. on Thursday through 8 p.m. on Friday.
Heat index values ranging from 98 to 103 degrees are expected, according to the National Weather Service.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. And there will be limited relief from the heat overnight, with muggy conditions and low temperatures in the mid-70s.

- Drink plenty of fluids
- Stay in an air-conditioned room
- Stay out of the sun
- Check up on relatives and neighbors
- To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments
- Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 103. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 92. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Saturday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
