BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Earlier this year, Neel Sood, who was completing his 5th grade year at Hillside Intermediate School at the time, won first place in the country in the 2025 BE KIND Make a Difference National Essay Contest in the 3rd-5th grade category.

The essay contest prompted students to highlight how they could use the 10 skills of kindness including being encouraging, supportive, and positive to make a positive impact in their communities.

In his winning essay, Neel discussed how small acts of kindness can make a big impact. His “Hearts of Kindness Project,” which he founded to spread kindness and positivity helped foster a culture of kindness at his school.
