New Year's Eve Backyard Bonfire Spreads To Home In Somerset County
The homeowner and his family were in the backyard earlier using the fire pit, said police.

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A New Year's Eve bonfire in the backyard of a North Plainfield home spread to the house, said police.
On Jan. 1 at around 1 a.m., North Plainfield Police went to 92 Norwood Ave. for a report of a structure fire.
The homeowner told police that he and his family were in the backyard earlier using the fire pit.

After they finished, they extinguished the fire and went inside the home, according to police.
At around 12:55 a.m., a neighbor knocked on his door, telling him that there was a fire in the backyard, and he immediately called 911.

The North Plainfield Fire Department successfully contained and extinguished the fire.
The outdoor patio furniture was completely burned and spread the fire toward the home. The fire spread to the back of the home and caused heat damage to the rear siding and windows, said police.
There was no fire damage to the inside of the home and the family was allowed to stay in the home.
