Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Somerset County

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Somerset County by the National Weather Service(NWS) through 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Locals can expect a chance of showers before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 and 5 p.m.

Then after 5 p.m., showers are likely and possibly a thunderstorm.

"Some of the storms could be severe," according to the NWS.

New rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are expected, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue tonight before 10 p.m., then a slight chance of showers between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Following Tuesday and into the week, rain is expected to continue with more thunderstorms possible.

Here is a look at the forecast for the rest of the week:

Wednesday: A slight chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 54. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Thursday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 5 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 75. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 11pm, then showers likely between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday: Showers likely, mainly before 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 62. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Friday Night: A chance of showers before 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 46. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
