Somerset County To Host Juneteenth Celebration For 2025

SOMERVILLE, NJ — Somerset County is hosting its fifth annual Juneteenth Celebration from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27, on the Somerset County Courthouse Green, at 20 North Bridge St. in Somerville.

This year’s theme is “Roots of Resilience: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future.” Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

The event begins at 5 p.m. with music by D.J. Brighter Daze. The program, which starts at 6 p.m., features Charisa the ViolinDiva, who captivates audiences with her riveting, contemporary violin and vocal performances; traditional African dance and music performed by Zawadi African Dance and Drum; and an original poem honoring the Roots of Resilience written and performed by Ms. Olivia Ivy Altidor.

At the finale, Somerset County Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson will present the third annual Juneteenth Leadership Award to Beverly Mills and Elaine Buck, co-authors of “If These Stones Could Talk” and co-founders of the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum.
