Edison Resident Input Sought For ‘Master Plan’ Updates

The "long-range blueprint" for the township will provide guidance for issues such as capital spending and policy direction, officials said.

EDISON, NJ - Do you have a vision for Edison Township?

Edison will be updating its master plan - an “official, long-range ‘blueprint’ for the township - and is currently seeking residents’ input during an upcoming public workshop. The current master plan dates back to 2003, according to the township (read the current master plan here).

The master plan “provides a community-supported vision and guidance for a wide range of issues, laying the foundation for future decisions on development, capital spending, and general policy direction,” according to the master plan update website. “Residents are encouraged to participate to ensure that the recommendations reflect current community priorities and needs.”

It is also the policy umbrella that will inform zoning and site plan ordinances, as well as land use, housing elements, utility services, community facilities, recreation, conservation, historic preservation and economic items.

The next public workshop to discuss the master plan vision and proposed strategies will be held on April 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Edison Municipal Complex (100 Municipal Blvd.).

“This will be the final public workshop before the Plan is drafted,” officials said. “Your input is very important.”

In late 2022, the township launched an online ideas board for residents to sound off on their recommendations for the master plan. Among the concerns were intersection dangers, poorly timed traffic lights, crowded schools and cyclist/pedestrian safety. You can read the submissions here.
