Local Government Introduces Parking Changes To Metuchen Downtown
The borough hopes these measures would enhance the downtown parking experience for residents and visitors.
METUCHEN, NJ – Metuchen has one of the most vibrant downtowns in New Jersey. Often, it’s difficult to find parking spots.
The borough recently completed a comprehensive four-prong plan designed to help manage downtown parking. To this end, Metuchen has introduced some changes to the current parking situation.
Here are the steps officials have implemented:

- Created 15-minute free parking spaces located at 12 locations downtown for quick pickup and drop off at local businesses
- Added short-term parking for up to four hours to three previously permit only lots with pay station kiosks on Center Street.
- Publicizing that safe, convenient and reasonably priced parking is available in the Pearl Street parking garage. Parking is free on weekends for up to three hours.
- Negotiated a $5 downtown business employee rate.
The borough will also be promoting the use of the Park Smarter app for parking meters.
“As a Borough parking study conducted nearly a decade ago concluded, Metuchen does not have a parking problem. What we have is a parking management problem,” Mayor Jonathan M Busch said on Facebook.

“It is our hope that these measures enhance the downtown parking experience for residents, visitors, commuters, and of course, our businesses and their employees. We will carefully monitor the impact that these changes have and certainly appreciate any feedback that helps us consider additional improvements if needed.”
