The Grand Army of the Republic was an organization of Union Civil War veterans. The post was named for Col. Thomas H. Davis of Camden, who was killed on May 12, 1864, at the babble of Spotsylvania Courthouse in Virginia, according to Lost Haddonfield by Douglas B. Rauschenberger and Katherine Mansfield Tassini.
