JERSEY CITY, NJ — Back-to-school planning has already begun in Jersey City, with calendars available to help parents prepare for the first day in Jersey City Public Schools.

The first day of school for most students in Jersey City is Sept. 9.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change as the coronavirus pandemic nears its year-and-a-half point.

The Jersey City Public School District is standing by its reopening plan, which recommends but does not mandate masks in school. According to the district, "The current Safe Return Plan calls for students and staff to wear a mask as one of the mitigation practices to lessen the spread of the COVID-19 virus. At this time our practices will require everyone to a mask as recommended. We also continue to promote to our families and staff to get vaccinated to stay safe."

Here is the list of dates to know for this school year:

Jersey City Public Schools

First Day: Sept. 9

Thanksgiving Break: Nov. 22-26 (Nov. 24 is 1/2 day)

Winter Break: Dec. 22 is a 1/2 day; Winter break is Dec. 23-31

Spring Break: April 14 is a 1/2 day; Spring Break is April 15-22

Last Day: June 27 (if no emergency days are needed)
