Construction Resumes On Incoming Jersey City Whole Foods

There's still no opening date on the grocery store, but signage is up.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — The wait is still on for Whole Foods in Jersey City, but it looks like progress is being made. Construction resumed Harborside 4A location, at the corner of Washington Street and Columbus Drive.

While signage and construction are underway at the Exchange Place location, an official opening date has yet to be announced. The Harborside 4A website lists Whole Foods as an incoming grocer with no hard date, only a "Coming Soon" message.

Some movement on the grocer has been happening behind the scenes as well this summer. In June, the Jersey City Whole Foods location was approved for a liquor license renewal, meaning the grocer could sell wine and beer.

The company was on the agenda along with several other establishments seeking renewals for the June 11 meeting for the Jersey City Alcoholic Beverage Control. If the Jersey City location follows through with the sale of alcohol, it would be just the third Whole Foods in New Jersey to follow suit.

According to Jersey City Upfront, Whole Foods announced in October that it would not only open the 47,000 square foot store in Jersey City but that it would plant its Northeast headquarters at the Harborside location as well. The company issued a release in May boasting the planned expansion of almost 40 new stores as well as 10,000 open positions company-wide.
