Jersey City To Break Ground On First New Firehouse In 20 Years
The $5.6 million firehouse will be located in the Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood, one of Jersey City's most densely populated areas.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Jersey City is getting its first new firehouse in 20 years. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Tuesday to celebrate the new station in Bergen-Lafayette.
Located at 627 Grand Street, the proposed new station will replace the 116-year-old condemned station. The previous station was condemned after the floor collapsed inside the single-bay structure, originally built for horse-drawn fire apparatus.
The new firehouse is the latest investment the city has made to the Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood and to public safety in recent months. The Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood is one of Jersey City’s most densely populated areas.

The new firehouse cost $5.6 million and will be two-stories. The first floor of the station will be for fire trucks and day-to-day operations and equipment. The second floor will have a kitchen, gym and officer's quarters and the Captain's office.
