Jersey City Medical Center In 'Urgent Need' Of Blood
The hospital is calling on donors to come to its next blood drive as blood shortages reach a high across the country.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — The coronavirus pandemic put a hold on a lot of things, including donating blood. Now that donations are safe, the U.S. is experiencing the worst blood shortage in history.
Right here in Jersey City, Jersey City Medical Center is feeling the effects of the shortage and trying to fix it. A blood drive will be held from 12 to 5:30 p.m. on July 22 in the medical center, at 335 Grand, Conference Rooms 5 & 6.
“As hospital needs outpace blood donations, the state’s blood supply is rapidly diminishing,” said Dr. Michael Loftus, Chief Medical Officer at Jersey City Medical Center.

“While COVID-19 conditions have improved, the need for blood never ends. Our hospitals rely on individual donations to provide much of the blood that we use, and our primary blood suppliers urgently need your help to address the severe blood shortage and avoid potential delays in lifesaving medical care for patients in need.”
Appointments are required and can be booked online. All donors will get a meal pass and a free t-shirt.
