JERSEY CITY, NJ — Helen Regan turned 103 on Monday and celebrated her birthday with Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and City Councilor Mira Prinz-Arey.

Regan has been alive to see 20 mayors lead the city and has spent her life in Jersey City. Officials paid Regan a visit in her Duncan Avenue home on Monday and honored her with a proclamation, surrounded by her family. Regan has lived in her Duncan Ave home for 75 years.

A graduate of Dickinson High School, Regan was a former student at the old P.S. 2. Her roots in Jersey City run deep — her father founded a church in the city in 1935 and to this day, she maintains a strong relationship with the parish community and is active in the church.

In a post celebrating her birthday, Mayor Fulop detailed fun facts about Regan to honor her. A die-hard Yankee fan, Regan still remembers going to see Babe Ruth play in the stadium and was in the same stadium when Lou Gehrig gave his famous speech. She continues to watch every Yankee game, even though she isn't crazy about the team this year.

On the Facebook posts from Fulop and Prinz-Arey, comments flooded in, showering Regan in well-wishes and recalling memories.
