Jersey City Woman Represents NJ In Summer Olympics
Dagmara Wozniak finished sixth in women's team sabre and 25th in women's individual sabre for fencing.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — A Jersey City woman represented New Jersey in the Tokyo Olympics this year and brought back sixth place and 25th place honors in fencing.
Dagmara Wozniak is on the U.S.A. Olympic fencing team and finished sixth in women's team sabre and 25th in women's individual sabre for fencing. She attended the 2016 Olympics as a replacement athlete but qualified this year to join the U.S.A. team.
Wozniak moved to the U.S. from Poland at age 1, and her family settled in Avenel. She began saber training at a young age and graduated from Colonia High School. She was part of the Team USA women's fencing team that won bronze in the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio. Wozniak has since lived in Hoboken and Jersey City. She died her hair bright purple for the 2016 Olympics because she said she wanted to encourage people to be confident and not be afraid to stand out.
