A scammer told a Bergen County senior that the latter reminded her of her dead mother, then stole her jewelry, police said.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A senior was scammed out of her jewelry this weekend by a woman who approached her in Glen Rock and said she reminded her of her dead mother, police say.
Glen Rock police said that an "elderly" woman reported on Saturday that while she was walking near Glen and Maple avenues that morning, a woman approached her and said she reminded her of her deceased mother. The suspect also told the victim it was her mother's birthday, police say.
The scammer then hugged the victim and placed two necklaces, a bracelet, and two rings on her, police say.
