Traffic Stop In Jersey City Leads To Heroin, Fentanyl Bust

A backpack belonging to one of the passengers had a kilo of heroin/fentanyl inside.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A six-week investigation and motor vehicle stop in Jersey City led to the arrest of an Elizabeth man and the seizure of more than two kilos of heroin/fentanyl.

At 10 p.m. on July 13, detectives did a motor vehicle stop of a car in Jersey City and later conducted a search warrant of a backpack belonging to one of the passengers, Juan Gomez, 37, of Elizabeth. Detectives found about one kilogram of heroin/fentanyl in the backpack.

When police searched Gomez’s apartment on Fairmount Avenue in Elizabeth on July 14, another 1,200 grams of heroin/fentanyl.

Gomez is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of CDS With Intent to Distribute (Fentanyl), a crime of the second degree
  • Possession of CDS With Intent to Distribute (Fentanyl) Within 500 Feet of a Public Park in, a crime of the second degree.
