Longtime Family Doctor In Bergen County Dies At 96
The Bergen County mom of 7 was among the first to graduate from the Georgetown University School of Medicine. She practiced until 2020.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Marie N. DeVita, a retired family doctor in Bergen County, died on Dec. 22 at age 96, according to her obituary.
She grew up in Weehawken and was among the first classes of women to graduate from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1954, her obituary says. DeVita was among the first doctors at Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood when it opened, the obit says. She only retired in February 2020 at age 92.
The family moved to Paramus in 1960 and lived there since. "We have fond memories of Mom coming out of the office between patients to either scold us for the ruckus we weremaking, or to stir the tomato sauce simmering on the stove!" wrote her kids in the obit.
