Stolen Car Crashes Into Bergen County Backyard, Driver Flees: Police

A Jersey City man is accused of crashing a stolen car into the backyard of a Paramus home, and then running away.

PARAMUS, NJ — A Jersey City man is accused of crashing a vehicle stolen out of New York into the backyard of a Paramus home on Monday, and then running away, Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said.

Javon Reaves, 29, was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen car, when police found him walking on Alden Road after the crash on Highland Avenue, Ehrenberg said.

Police said Reaves drove the stolen Nissan Maxima off the exit ramp of the Garden State Parkway, which abuts the home's rear yard, thus resulting in the crash, and that he fled prior to officers' arrival.

Based on descriptions provided by witnesses, officers found Reaves, who initially tried to identify himself as the stolen car victim; however, it was "quickly determined" that he was not, Ehrenberg said.

Registration records revealed that the car was stolen earlier that evening out of Monroe, New York, police said.
