Man Jumps From Garden State Parkway Overpass In Paramus: Police

Police immediately helped the man, who injured his legs and abdomen, but did not lose consciousness, authorities said.

PARAMUS, NJ — A Paterson man was injured after he jumped from the Garden State Parkway into Midland Avenue Monday afternoon, police said.

Police got a call shortly after noon about a man on a ledge on the Garden State Parkway over Midland Avenue, said Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg.

Officers arrived at Midland Avenue and found the man straddling the overpass. They tried speaking with the 28-year-old man, but he jumped onto Midland Avenue, Ehrenberg said.

Police immediately provided medical attention to the man, who sustained "moderate injuries" to his legs and abdomen, but was still conscious, Ehrenberg said.

Paramus Emergency Medical Services took the man to Hackensack University Medical Center.
