Update: Dump Truck Driver Killed In Bergen Crash On I-287, Police Say

The truck overturned just before 8 a.m. in Oakland, according to 511 NJ and state police.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A fatal crash involving an overturned dump truck on I-287 Thursday morning shut down southbound lanes, according to travel officials.

The driver, 56-year-old Ronald Appel, died after his tractor trailer flipped in the area of Exit 57 (Skyline Drive) in Oakland at about 7:50 a.m., according to police officials and 511 NJ.

The Morris County man was killed after he crashed the Mack truck into a guardrail, New Jersey State Police spokesperson Charles Marchan said.

The crash — which delayed early-morning traffic — remains under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time, officials said.
