Update: Outages Spike In Parsippany Again
The utility had said power would be fully restored by Tuesday at 11:30 p.m.
PARSIPPANY, NJ—After Jersey Central Power & Light's self-imposed deadline passed on Tuesday, outages in Parsippany spiked to 921 Wednesday afternoon and the mayor called for compensation for customers.
"I have heard from hundreds of residents over the last week who are justifiably angry with JCP&L's response," Parsippany Mayor Michael Soriano said in a letter to JCP&L chief executive Charles Jones. Soriano called on the utility company to reimburse any customers who lost power for 48 hours or more for the cost of food, medication, and other perishables, and called on state regulators to monitor the process.
JCP&L said that it had no plans to reimburse customers, and suggested they consult their insurance company for items lost during the blackout. The utility issued an updated estimated restoration of service time for the Parsippany outages of 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
