Downtown Summit Wins 2021 Great Places In NJ Award
The New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association designated Summit as having one of the liveliest downtowns in the state.
SUMMIT, NJ — Downtown Summit has been named as one of the 2021 Great Places In New Jersey for its lively shopping and restaurant scene, as well as its overall cultural and historical significance.
The New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association placed Summit in its Downtown category for exemplifying "a true sense of place, cultural and historic interest, community involvement and a vision for tomorrow," according to its 2021 list.
Other towns that have previously received this award include Westfield, Cranford and Morristown.

“We are thrilled to receive this designation,” Mayor Nora Radest said. “Although we have always known that our wonderful and accessible downtown is one of the greatest places in New Jersey, now others will know as well.
"I am extremely proud of the cohesive community effort to support our local shops and restaurants these past two years. Summit’s downtown has a vitality that has been sustained and celebrated by a community that values it.”

Summit Downtown, Inc (SDI), a non-profit organization, represents the retailers, businesses and property owners within Summit's Special Improvement District. SDI organizes events and oversees marketing of the downtown and its businesses.
The application for the award was submitted by SDI.
“Downtown Summit is a vibrant regional destination and absolutely one of the great places in New Jersey,” SDI Board of Trustees Chair Bob Conway said. “We share this recognition with everyone who has thoughtfully invested in our downtown’s beautification, preservation, and economic and social
vitality.”
SDI Director Nancy Adams said she is proud to receive this award but is not completely surprised.
“Summit’s downtown is very special," Adams said. "It has a lively art, shopping, and restaurant scene, providing visitors with a true sense of place and community.”
