Early Dismissal For Summit Schools Due To Icy Weather Conditions

All Summit Public Schools will have a half day due to the inclement weather, the district announced early Thursday morning.

SUMMIT, NJ — The Summit Public School District announced early Thursday morning that all schools will have an early dismissal due to the inclement weather.

The National Weather Service is predicting freezing rain in the afternoon, as well as possible ice accumulation. Due to these conditions, all Summit Schools will have a half day — according to Summit Communications Officer Laurene Callander.

The dismissal schedule for each school is as follows:

Pre-School (AM) 11:30am dismissal; No PM pre-school

Pre-School (Full Day) 11:30am dismissal

Kindergarten 12:00pm dismissal

Elementary School 12:30pm dismissal

Middle School 12:15pm dismissal

High School 12:06pm dismissal

Thursday

Rain before 3pm, then freezing rain between 3pm and 4pm, then rain or freezing rain after 4pm. Patchy fog before noon. Temperature falling to around 30 by 5pm. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. West wind around 8 mph becoming north in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.

Thursday Night

A chance of freezing rain and sleet, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Northwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
