Halloween Parade In Summit To Include Costume Contest, Sweet Treats

The annual parade will include music, entertainment, food and a 'chilling' costume contest with prizes to be announced.

SUMMIT, NJ — Boo! Summit's annual Halloween Parade is quickly approaching and time is running out if you still need a costume.

The parade, hosted by Summit Department of Community Programs and the Police Athletic League, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29 (rain date on Sunday) beginning at 2:45 p.m.

The route will begin at Deforest Avenue and continue to Beechwood Road, Union Place, Maple Street and end at Summit's Village Green at 356 Broad Street.

Here is the full schedule for the parade:

  • 2:45 p.m.- Line up at 25 Deforest Avenue
  • 3 p.m.- Depart for Village Green
  • Arrival until 4:15 p.m. - judging, games, music and fun
  • 4:15 p.m. - Announcement of winners
  • Entertainment continues through 5 p.m.

Attendees can enjoy sweet treats, music and entertainment on the Village Green following the parade.

At Tuesday night's Summit Common Council meeting, Mayor Nora Radest announced the various categories for the "Chilling Costume Contest" that will be held after the parade.

She said prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in the following categories: Most 2022 Relevant, Scariest, Cutest, Best Group, Most Original, Mayor's Choice and Best Overall.

Trick-or-treating in Summit's downtown will also take place from 3 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31. Radest said participating businesses will have a sign in the window.
