SUMMIT, NJ — The City of Summit will host a community meeting and presentation, explaining the Broad Street West redevelopment project that the Planning Board chose to revamp back in 2017.

The presentation will take place at the Summit Community Center located at 100 Morris Avenue on Wednesday, Feb. 9 from 7 p.m to 9 p.m.

According to the City, in 2016, an area along Broad Street between Maple Street and Springfield Avenue was identified as an area to be considered for redevelopment "because of its investment potential, potential neighborhood cohesion and connection."

It was also decided that this area could be conducive for affordable housing, live/work units, adaptive reuse, pedestrian amenities, public art and open space, affordable neighborhood retail, office and co-working space and community facilities.

In this planning process, the community will have input into how the development takes place. According to the City's website, redevelopment planning creates a "public-private partnership" where the development is used to address existing community concerns and meet the needs for future stability and growth.

Projects like this can only be implemented with the creation of a redevelopment plan specific to the block and lots.

During the public presentation on Feb. 9, an update will be provided on the subdistrict three development.

Concept plans will be available for review, as well as a 3-D model of the planned structure.

Community members will be able to ask questions after the presentation.

“As we continue with the Broad Street West redevelopment process, I encourage residents and members of the business community to stay involved,” Summit Mayor Nora Radest said. “I am thrilled for the public to be able to view plans for subdistrict three on February 9.”
