Car Stolen, 3 Charged In Summit

Police arrested three people after the theft of a 2014 grey Honda Accord on Blackburn Road in Summit.

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit Police arrested three people in connection with a car theft that occurred on Blackburn Road on Friday, Jan. 7.

The 911 caller said a 2014 grey Honda Accord with tinted windows was stolen. Once the car was found, Officer Christopher Walsh arrested three people.

Officers identified a fourth suspect and immediately issued an emergency alert to inform residents of police activity in the area and ask for assistance in searching for the fourth suspect.

Following an investigation, three suspects were charged with the following:

  • Cornell Brown of Newark was charged with two counts of burglary to a motor vehicle, two counts of possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS), one count of hindering own apprehension by providing false information to a law enforcement officer and one count of criminal attempt to commit auto theft.
  • Alkabir Hinton of Newark was charged with two counts of burglary to a motor vehicle, one count of possession of CDS and driving after license was suspended or revoked.
  • Lashone Bass of Newark was charged with two counts of burglary to a motor vehicle and one count of possession of CDS.

Summit Police Department asks anyone with information pertinent to the investigation, including surveillance footage of the suspect vehicle in the area, to contact the Detective Bureau at (908) 273-0051.
